West Highland Way Charity Challenge 2024

Vision Scotland organises an annual one-day walk from Fort William to Strathfillan. The event involves a team of 35 healthcare professionals walking or running along a 44-mile stretch of the West Highland Way on September 21st, 2024.

Walkers:

Participants have the choice to walk the first leg: 15 miles
First and second leg: 26 miles
First, second and third leg: 36 miles
Full route: 44 miles

We start early on Saturday morning, after a good nights sleep in Fort William’s Premier Inn. The day starts at 6am, we walk throughout the day, supported by an exceptional support crew who meet participants at each check point to refuel them and check they’re able to safely continue on their way.

Finish time will depend on the distance being covered but transportation is provided to take participants back to parked cars for their onward journey home on Saturday afternoon. We also book a few wigwams at Strathfillan Wigwams for those who prefer to have a night’s sleep before heading home.

Support Crew

If walking isn’t for you then come and join our support crew. You’re as much a part of the event as the walkers, and essential part of the overall experience. Helping set up our gazebos, heating food, providing much needed emotional support for participants and generally having a great day out!

Where does fundraising go?

The Sight Saving Surgery fund allows optometrists from across Scotland to nominate patients in desperate need of eye care for treatment with Vision Scotland. These patients may not qualify for treatment with the NHS but require urgent attention. The fund covers the costs associated with pre-op, surgical, and post-surgery care, and the treatment is provided free of charge by Vision Scotland.

The patients who benefit from this fund include carers with poor eye health, individuals below driving standards who rely on driving for work or care, key workers who need good eyesight for their jobs, and individuals at risk of losing their sight completely.
