Originally from Edinburgh, Jonathan is a leading specialist in refractive cataract surgery and laser eye surgery. As the only eye surgeon in Scotland capable of carrying out pioneering lens surgery for patients with advanced macular degeneration (1 of only 4 in the whole of the UK), he is one of Scotland’s busiest surgeons. With more than 10,000 eye operations under his belt, patients can be sure they are in safe, experienced hands.
Following his training in London, Liverpool and Glasgow, Jonathan went on to work as a consultant in New Zealand before founding Laser Vision Scotland in 2010. A few years later in 2014, he formed a new partnership with Sanjay Mantry, and today heads up Vision Scotland, offering a wider range of treatments across our 4 pioneering clinics.
Jonathan is also an active member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Sanjay is our leading specialist in refractive surgery and laser eye surgery – and is internationally recognised as an expert in his field with an enviable reputation within the global eye surgeon community.
After completing his specialist surgical training over the course of 10 years in Birmingham and Nottingham, Sanjay relocated to Scotland, where he currently lives in Glasgow with his wife and 2 children. As well as running our busy clinics in Edinburgh and Glasgow, Sanjay also find the time to deliver lectures on emerging techniques at prestigious international conferences and helps train the next generation of refractive surgeons. He is also an active member of the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Bowman Club.
Dr Flavahan is a dedicated and caring consultant ophthalmic surgeon with a special interest in cornea, cataract and refractive surgery. After graduating from Liverpool Medical school in 2008, Dr Flavahan moved back to Scotland with his young family to train in ophthalmology.
In 2015, he won the Oxford Congress research prize for his work looking at corneal transplant healing. He is currently Clinical Lead at NHS Forth Valley where he specialises in corneal transplant surgery and where he was able to introduce high volume cataract surgery. He is one of only a few surgeons in Scotland to hold the coveted CertLRS qualification in refractive surgery from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and has performed more than 4,000 surgical cases to date.
Manjit Mehat is an award-winning eye surgeon who specialises in cataract and retinal surgery, including floaters, macular hole, epiretinal membrane and retinal detachment surgery. He also manages patients for the medical treatment of retinal conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and blood vessel disorders of the retina. Manjit provides a bespoke, patient-centred service for the management of cataract and retinal problems.
Manjit has undertaken 8-years of advanced surgical and research training at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital. This included a two-years retinal surgery fellowship where he performed complex retinal and cataract surgery. His world class surgical training means that you can expect the most advanced clinical and surgical expertise available. He has modernised inpatient retinal surgery in Edinburgh through the implementation of day-case surgery for all vitrectomy, retinal detachment surgery, macular hole surgery and epiretinal membrane surgery. This practice is supported with over 5 years of safety data from his clinical practice both in Edinburgh and London. Mr Mehat also performs ultra-small gauge (25g and 27g) vitrectomy surgery for the treatment of retinal and macular diseases including; macular hole, epiretinal membrane, vitreomacular traction, diabetic retinopathy and surgery for debilitating floaters. He has also introduced posture-free macular hole surgery to Edinburgh. Manjit also performs micro-incision sutureless cataract surgery and is the point of referral for the management of complex and more challenging cataract surgery. In the private sector he also offers toric and premium intraocular lenses (IOL), to reduce dependence on glasses. He also provides advanced cataract surgery for the treatment of previously complicated cataract surgery, including dropped nucleus, dislocated IOL, exchange of IOL. Mr Mehat has acclaimed research expertise in retinal disease with a particular focus on the application of gene and stem-cell therapy to treat blindness. He is currently chief surgeon for the first retinal gene therapy trial in Edinburgh. Manjit has also been a senior investigator in the world’s first gene therapy trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine (2015) and more recently was the lead author for the first stem-cell transplantation for inherited macular degeneration in Europe. Mr Mehat’s NHS practice is currently based at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavillion in Edinburgh and consults privately at the Spire Shawfair and The Edinburgh Clinic.
Ms. Saidkasimova is an experienced ophthalmologist with over a decade of experience. She holds fellowships from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology in Glasgow, and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. She offers both NHS and private consultations, taking a patient-centric approach by addressing their concerns and explaining surgical procedures.
She’s actively involved in training new ophthalmologists, serving as a training lead for the British and Eire Vitreoretinal Society and an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Her academic interests are extensive, with numerous publications and speaking engagements in ophthalmology and medical history. Beyond her professional work, Ms. Saidkasimova engages in charitable projects in various countries, including Jerusalem, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Uzbekistan, and at the Turkish-Syrian border.
Mr Ken Lai is an experienced and fully accredited Consultant Ophthalmologist, with a special interest in Glaucoma.
Graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 2006, Mr Ken Lai then Carried out his Ophthalmic Specialist Training in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, including subspecialty fellowship training in Glaucoma. Mr Lai worked as Glaucoma specialist/surgeon and general ophthalmologist in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde from 2016.
His professional roles include being the clinical lead for the Glaucoma service in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, as well as being actively involved in lead roles for both undergraduate and postgraduate ophthalmology training.
Mr Lai has a wide array of Glaucoma expertise invarious laser treatments, augmented filtering surgery, drainage device implantation, micro invasive glaucoma surgeries(MIGS) as well as cataract surgery
Jonathan Foulds is a dynamic and innovative surgeon specialising in both cataract and oculoplastic surgery.
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Professor Wallace Foulds, an internationally renowned Scottish Ophthalmologist who helped start up the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Jonathan decided to follow suit into a career in ophthalmology. Jonathan qualified in 2006 from the University of Dundee Medical School. After completing his medical training, he went on to be accepted onto the East of Scotland, Ophthalmology specialty training programme, before taking up an NHS consultant post in Fife in 2015.
Jonathan works as an NHS Consultant in NHS Fife alongside his work with Vision Scotland. He runs a weekly high volume cataract list within both his NHS and Vision Scotland practices, and is responsible for training the next generation of junior surgeons. Jonathan would be delighted to meet with you to discuss your surgical needs on an individual basis. He offers cataract surgery using micro-incisional and sutureless techniques, and provides YAG-laser capsulotomy for post cataract surgery clouding.
Dr Soo Park is an experienced and fully accredited Consultant Ophthalmologist, with a special interest in cataract surgery, Medical Retina and Uveitis.
He graduated from University of London in 1999 and undertook an MD (Res) degree in Molecular Medicine and Genetic Association Studies at the renowned Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. His ophthalmic training was based at St Thomas’ Hospital in London and at the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, Glasgow. He broadened his knowledge in ophthalmology with further sub-specialist training in Glaucoma.
During his training he was awarded the Medicine Publishing Company/Glaxo Welcome Medical Fellowship Award and won the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Annual Congress prize for the best poster presentation. Furthermore, he has won numerous awards throughout his career including Alcon Research, Research Support Grants from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and from the Institute of Child Health Dean’s Travel Fund.
Dr Park works as an NHS consultant at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital and University Hospital Hairmyres, where he is the Lead Clinician in Uveitis. In addition, he is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and maintains an active interest in teaching undergraduate medical students in general ophthalmology, and cataract surgery to trainee ophthalmologists from the West of Scotland run-through programme. He is also a member of the Scottish Uveitis Network.
He has gained a broad spectrum of experience in cataract surgery. He is an accomplished cataract surgeon having performed over 10000 cataract surgeries, and maintains excellent surgical outcomes, with regular auditing showing complication rates well below the national average.
Having gained a sound knowledge in dealing with complex cases in medical ophthalmology, Dr Park has expertise in Medical Retina and Uveitis. This includes management of wet age-related macular degeneration with intravitreal injections, diabetic eye disease (diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema) and retinal vein occlusions.
Amit specialises in management of glaucoma and has been the lead of Glaucoma Service in NHS Lanarkshire (NHSL) since 2009.
Amit trained in India and the U.K. He specialises in ophthalmology with a focus on patient-centric care. As a consultant at University Hospital Hairmyres since 2006, he is an expert in suture-less cataract surgery and laser procedures for glaucoma. Amit is also one of the UK’s leading surgeons in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. Amit is a leader in modernising NHSL’s glaucoma service, introducing innovative procedures and practices.
His contributions extend to teaching and training ANPs and specialist optometrists, pioneering Scotland’s first virtual glaucoma clinic. Since 2006, he has served as a clinical supervisor and mentor in West of Scotland training rotations. An active educator and examiner for prestigious medical bodies, Amit collaborates with community optometrists, leading the Shared Care scheme and contributing to the nationwide implementation of a Community Glaucoma Scheme in Scotland.
Passionate and experienced eye surgeon Mr Burgess specialises in adult and pediatric cataract surgery and squint procedures.
With a first-class honours degree in Engineering from Edinburgh and service in the Royal Air Force, he pursued his calling, graduating from Dundee Medical School in 2012 with commendation. After foundation years in Glasgow, he completed specialist Ophthalmic training in Dundee. Awarded fellowship by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2019, Stephen is now an Ophthalmic Consultant in NHS Forth Valley, focusing on innovative surgical planning for patient safety and quality care.
He plays a key role in medical student teaching and is involved in ophthalmology-related committees in Scotland. Stephen focuses on minimally invasive surgery whilst ensuring patient comfort throughout. He performs weekly cataract lists with low complication rates and high patient satisfaction. He uses up to date, cutting edge techniques to ensure safe and successful surgery.
Mr Oliver Chadwick is an skilled and fully accredited consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cataract and oculoplastic surgery. He is experienced in complex cataract surgery using up-to- date techniques, tailored to each individual to achieve the best possible outcomes for every patient. He is experienced in addressing oculoplastic complaints such as eyelid malposition (entropion/ectropion), excess skin and droopy eyelids (ptosis) and his NHS practice includes periocular skin cancer surgery.
After graduating from the University of Leeds with honours (recognised for outstanding students), he moved to Scotland to undertake his Ophthalmology specialty training initially in Aberdeen and later in Glasgow. He was appointed a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2019, and to a consultant post in NHS Forth Valley and the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in 2022. As part of his professional work Mr Chadwick is passionate about teaching and training future surgeons. He is the lead for ophthalmology training as well as the Royal College of Ophthalmologists College tutor for NHS Forth Valley, and an active member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists skills faculty, training young opthalmologists from across the UK and the world.

Since 2009, Dr. Chadha has is one of the two Consultants overseeing the Scottish Ocular Oncology Service, a nationally funded program. Alongside this, he runs a tertiary referral oculoplastics service and regularly performs cataract surgery.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Chadha is the Training Programme Director for ophthalmology in the West of Scotland and Chair of the Curriculum Committee at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London. He played a key role in implementing the new UK ophthalmology curriculum in August 2024. Dr. Chadha is an experienced examiner for the Royal College of Glasgow and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and he runs a highly regarded FRCOphth preparatory course in Glasgow.
Dr. Chadha is also an accomplished researcher with over 40 peer-reviewed publications and contributions to several ophthalmology textbooks. He is frequently invited to review articles for leading journals and has served as guest editor for Eye. As an international speaker, Dr. Chadha has delivered over 100 lectures at regional, national, and global ophthalmology conferences.
Zac is a dedicated and resolute Consultant, bringing an impressive wealth of experience in the field of ophthalmology, particularly in vitreoretinal and advanced cataract surgery. Zac has been practicing in the West of Scotland since 2006, with roles at NHS Ayrshire & Arran and NHS Golden Jubilee National Hospital, where he also leads postgraduate ophthalmic and surgical training. His dedication to advancing patient care is matched by his pioneering contributions to the field. He was the first to introduce sutureless vitrectomy in clinical practice, established Scotland’s first daycase vitreoretinal service, and set up the first private vitreoretinal service in the country.
A graduate of the Armed Forces Medical College in India, Zac completed his ophthalmic training at the renowned Aravind Eye Institute and his higher surgical training at The Tennent’s Institute in Glasgow. He has over 90 papers, posters and publications and has a significant contribution to the global academic community. His role as principal investigator in multinational trials has shaped important treatment protocols used in modern ophthalmic care.
Zac’s passion for education extends beyond his clinical work. He leads courses on microsurgical skills and cataract surgery at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and has taught retinal surgery at the European School of Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology. His training programs at Golden Jubilee Hospital have earned top ratings from trainees and are now being considered a model for training across Scotland.
In addition to his clinical and academic contributions, Zac has held senior leadership roles, including Clinical Director for Ophthalmology at NHS Ayrshire & Arran and Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee at Nuffield Hospital. His leadership in shaping the Standards for Cataract Surgery in Scotland, as requested by Healthcare Improvement Scotland, showcases his commitment to improving care at a national level.
In 2024, he was nominated as a national finalist for Eye Care Professional of the Year by the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).
Throughout his career, Mr Cox has been committed to providing friendly, patient-centred care.
For over 15 years, he has provided a vitreoretinal service at Gartnavel, managing both VR cases and complex cataract surgeries. He also performs a high volume of cataract surgeries at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital (GJNH) while teaching cataract surgery to trainees. Passionate about training, Mr Cox has had the privilege of mentoring the next generation of vitreoretinal surgeons—both UK-based and international—through the prestigious Tennent Institute’s VR Fellowship.
Beyond Glasgow, he has travelled overseas to participate in several cataract camps in Ethiopia, an experience he thoroughly enjoyed. His role as an appraiser for consultants has reinforced the vital importance of maintaining the highest standards and professionalism in every aspect of healthcare.
Dr. Manish Gupta specialises in the administration of intra-vitreal injections, including Anti-VEGF and steroids.
Dr. Gupta’s practice will also include the management of conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vein occlusion, disorders.
Since August 2011, Dr. Gupta has been a key figure in NHS Greater Glasgow, overseeing the Medical Retina service at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Stobhill Hospital.
Beyond his clinical role, he is deeply involved in medical education, serving as an examiner for the FRCS exams with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the FRCOphth exams with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London.
He is also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and co-convenes the FRCS Part 3 Glasgow exams. An accomplished author, Dr. Gupta has published in international journals and co-authored book chapters.
He contributes to training optometrists, nurses, and general practitioners and serves as a consultant trainer at the West of Scotland Teach and Treat (WOSCOTT) clinic. Passionate about education, he actively leads CPD events on medical retina conditions and OCT interpretation.
